The One-Degree Shift

Sometimes it seems like nothing works the way it should. Your otherwise purpose-filled work no longer inspires and actually can bring tears of boredom. Your otherwise close and loving relationship becomes a struggle. Or you may even begin to feel uncomfortable in your body after your metabolism starts slowing down.

At times like these, changing your life can seem overwhelming. There’s so much to do! Where do you even start? It’s quite simple, really. Just change ONE thing.

Eliminate one unhealthy food from your diet. Do an unselfish act of kindness for a stranger or a loved one with no expectation of anything in return. List three things about your job or business for which you are grateful. Take a different route to work. Any simple change has the potential to drastically change your perspective and transform your life.

Imagine yourself the captain of a ship at sea. If you change direction by even 1 degree. After traveling 100 miles, you will reach an entirely different destination.

Of course, the most profound shifts are the ones you make internally. Annoyance can be turned into fascination; frustration into gratitude. And even anger into appreciation or humility.

Don't try changing your life all at once. It can be done; but may bring a lot of frustration and disappointment. Just focus on making one simple shift. One improvement, every single day, can yield gigantic results in a year. Too often, we overestimate what we can accomplish in a day, and underestimate what we can accomplish in a year. The same is true with one-year vs. five-year goals, respectively.

So, what “one-degree” shift can YOU make TODAY?
