The greatest single cause of procrastination is perfectionism. What perfectionism creates, most often, is a stack of unfinished, “someday-maybe” dreams and ideals.
Perfection-based procrastination can be a tough challenge to overcome, so here are a few tips to help you.
1. Write down exactly what you want to do. Whether you’re planning a dream vacation or birthing a new project, write down the vision in bold, clear terms.
2. Post your written vision somewhere you can see it. Tape it up on your bathroom mirror. Post it on the refrigerator. Or set it next to your computer. Look at your statement every day.
3. Take simple steps every day. Every morning, write out 3 simple things you can do to step toward your dreams. Maybe there’s a phone call you need to make, or an email you need to send. Maybe you need to renew your passport, or supplies you need to buy. Do at least one of these tasks EVERY DAY.
If you get started right now, by the time things are “just right” you’ll be well on your way having completed many tasks and having more resources available.
