Letting Go

“Why is letting go so difficult for us?  Even when we want to let go; some part of us clings on to what “used to be.” Change requires us to let go of something familiar and comfortable. And that makes us feel anxious, even if the change is for our own good, and our present circumstances are not serving us well.

Transitioning to a new phase of life requires an ending. For that ending to happen, we need to let go; so a new beginning can start. This situation creates feelings of uncertainty and fear. We find ourselves wondering, “Am I making the right decision?” “Will I be better off, or worse?” Or, “Do I have the strength to do this?” Doubts and questions are a natural part of the process.

If we want to learn, grow, and develop, we have to accept discomfort once in awhile. We have to be willing to let go of at least some aspects of what makes us feel secure and comfortable. When we do, a new future awaits us. And it is probably better than we ever imagined.
